Finding the right treatment center can really feel overwhelming, can’t it? And while there are options for Christian rehab, what about the loved ones with substance abuse issues in your life who not only are unbelievers, but are adamantly opposed to going to a Christian rehab?
Besides praying for them, what can be done?

God’s Word and Healing
As believers, we know that the best possible help for overcoming addiction comes from a Scriptural standpoint; it comes from salvation (2 Cor 5:17), when the Lord changes our heart of stone into a heart of flesh, and from sanctification (2 Cor 3:18), growing in the likeness of our Lord and Savior more and more each day.
We want our hearts and minds strengthened as much as our bodies. God is not an add-on to some secular program of treatment modalities to us; His Word is the core structure. The Bible itself explains that it is sufficient to help us with whatever issues we’re facing, addiction or otherwise.
2 Timothy 3:16 tells us, “All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness.” And 2 Peter 1:21 says that no prophecy of Scripture “was ever made by the will of man.” Peter continues: “…but men being moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.”
Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
Colossians 3:16 commands us: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.”
Colossians 2:8 warns us of what happens when the sufficiency of Scripture is “combined” with secular concepts: “See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, and not according to Christ.”
Psalm 19:7-14 tells us that God’s Word restores our souls, gives us wisdom, makes our hearts rejoice, enlightens our eyes, and teaches us to fear the Lord. It also tells us that God’s Word is more desirable than money and wealth.
The entirety of Psalm 119, also known as the longest chapter in the Bible, is basically a treatise on God’s Word and how it especially helps us in times of distress.
And finally, Jesus says in Mark 13:31: “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.”
Other Options for Treatment
However, as much as we may desire for our loved ones to turn to our Savior and His Word, sometimes the choice comes down to secular rehab vs. no help at all.
Fortunately, in the U.S. today, there are a number of hiqh-quality rehabilitation centers across the country. Some of them are specialists. For example, Casa Capri Recovery specializes in treating only women. Others focus on providing the most luxurious experience possible, whether it’s near the beach or in the mountains. Still others focus on modalities of therapy, such as using horses or music.
Regardless, many of these facilities are helmed by men and/or women who have “walked a mile in your shoes.” Countless rehabs today are owned and operated by at least one person who is an example of how sobriety can change a person’s life for the better.
Because rehabs are so often owned by “sober success stories,” they usually try to hire the best possible people to work there. They want to give their clients the best possible care.
How Your Loved One Can Afford Rehab
That sounds great, but let’s say you’re not exactly rich. How can you afford to send your loved one to rehab?
Believe it or not, many types of insurance will cover some or all of the costs of going to rehab. Especially if your loved one works for a large corporation, such as Amazon or Costco.
But even if they work for a smaller company, some of the PPO insurance providers that help pay for treatment may include Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), United Health Care, Cigna, Aetna, and many others.
The best thing to do is to have your loved one’s insurance card handy when you call rehabs. The admissions specialists who answer the phone (they’re generally very compassionate) can help verify the insurance and let you know what type of coverage your loved one can expect.
The Bottom Line
The bottom line is that there is help out there for your loved ones. If you’d like help finding a non-Christian rehab for your unbelieving loved one, you’re still welcome to call us as we may be able to refer you to an option that your loved one will be excited about agreeing to.
